A few quiet windless days over the last weekend saw a number of boats out and about on the lake, most reports were quite positive with some nice conditioned fish showing up for those that have been prepared to put the effort into really hunting them down and finding the correct depths and staying on the move.

Most fish have been found quite deep around the 40 meter mark, Traffic Light, Spotty Gold, Copper and Black and Gold Tobies have been going well.

Early morning Harling is starting to fire for those hardy souls getting out at the crack of dawn, Harling just along the drop offs has been the key with Small size #8 Green Orbits, Woolly Buggers in Olive and Black doing the business.

Local fly fishing has had another steady week especially for those getting out at the change of light for an hour or two, most mornings have been quite murky and the first few hours have been good on most local rivers until the sun came up and then it starts to get harder in the low clear conditions we have had recently.

Hopefully all that is set to change this weekend with rain forecast from today through to next week and a big low over the North Island, we know there are lots of fish now waiting to run the rivers and it’s been a long time since we had decent rain, so now is the time to get yourself out and give the local rivers a go they should all fire this coming week.

River mouths have been performing a lot better this week with a Westerly blowing a few fish up the local mouths earlier in the week, the moon has now gone and we have a low pressure over us so you can expect to see the action intensify as soon as that fresh water starts to increase the flows at the mouth.

This next month is set to be a cracker if the weather plays ball!! The holidays are over so less angling pressure on the water so no excuses, get out and enjoy.
