A U19 Girls Taupo Select Hockey Team headed over to Los Angeles, USA to compete in the Cal Cup Hockey Tournament. The team was made up of players from local colleges all between 15 and 18 of age. Starting on the 26th May – 29th May the team played against different teams from across America, Mexico and various other countries. The Cal Cup Hockey Tournament is very well known throughout the USA and is an annual event every year at the venue with over 100 teams competing with teams of only 5-year-olds up to over 80 of age. The girls are the second team from NZ to ever compete after the coach took a boy’s team over in 2016.
We are very proud of our apprentice Abby Hirst one of the players from the U19 Taupo Select Team who works tirelessly all day long and then heads to hockey practice and her games afterwards.
The U19 Girls Taupo Select team travelled over to Los Angeles, USA to compete in the Cal Cup International Field Hockey Tournament. Playing in the U19 Elite Woman’s division, the girls came away with 4th overall in their division after playing some close games.
