TAUPO FISHING REPORT
18-05-2016
FLY AND GUN
Winter runs for the fly fishers have been somewhat delayed this year due to low levels and lack of cold wintery weather, there have been fish in most local rivers for a while now and quite a few have ran already on the last rain we had quite some time ago.
With the rivers being so low and clear what fish have been seen are extremely skittish and very aware of their surroundings making the fishing very challenging.
Hopefully all that is about to change as we head in to some wintery weather this week with some long awaited rain and some good cold Westerly and Southerly winds to chill everything right down.
The rivers are also desperately in need of a really good scouring out and cleansing to wash away all the remaining summer algae that is making nymph fishing difficult at the moment
The fish will respond straight away as quite a few have been waiting quite some time at the many river mouths for an opportunity to run so I expect you will see things start to happen this week , providing the rain that is forecast actually gets here.
The river mouths have been fishing quite well for those that have braved the rougher weather this week with some nice conditioned rainbows many of which are full of eggs and waiting to run.
Iff you haven’t got your gear ready yet for a winter foray then now might be the time to think about getting out to enjoy what will hopefully be another awesome Taupo winter.
Tight lines all
